Camera Obscura
EXHIBITION NOTES
Camera Obscura Series
Concepts of time, properties of light, and the contemplative intimacy of a domestic space are the primary focus of this body of work. In this series, a small opening focuses light in a darkened domestic environment. The resulting image is then captured using a digital camera. In this way the origins of photography have been revisited, and investigations into current image capture technology have been pursued. The concentration and amplification of this subdued light literally brings into focus the diffused light present in all interiors. Changing light, and the blurred colours of an external landscape infusing into an interior space are a reminder of the external environment surrounding this decorated container of daily activity.
These images were displayed in the Art Factory project space of Maitland Regional Art Gallery, alongside a large camera obscura that was installed by Sean Roche and MRAG Education Curator Lauren van Katwyk. This installation accompanied Roche’s exhibition Hours & Minutes. Further information may be found on the MRAG (Maitland Regional Art Gallery) website.
