Light Source

EXHIBITION NOTES
Multi-disciplinary artists Ken O’Regan, Chris Brown and Kris Smith, present Light Source, a meditation on the passage of deep time and the intersection of natural and built environments. Using light as their primary medium, these artists speak to the possibility of our speculative futures through experimental interpretations. Employing methods of found object assemblage, traditional and digital image processes, themes around the intertwined fragility of our constructed ecosystems and entropy are explored.

Artist Statement:
This body of work is based on an ongoing interest in the rhythm and visual poetry of natural light. It explores the relationship between planetary cycles and architectural spaces and elements that acknowledge these repetitions.

Time-lapse photography techniques amplify the passing of time, and in doing so invite a questioning of our perception of this passing, and the personal and cultural significance of this.

The seamlessly looping imagery used points to an idea of ‘deep time’, and whilst celebrating the beauty that can be found in a heightened awareness of the present moment, it also alludes to the brittle fragility of our constructed environments and social systems.

The videos were created using image sequences photographed on the occasion of the winter solstice, and depict coloured light and translucent paintings projecting a repeating cycle of silent stories into a meditative space.
